Yesterday Yahoo unveiled their new iOS application. I’ve been playing around with it for a bit and now I’m going to tell you what I think. Yahoo’s new application looks amazing. There has been a drastic redesign from the old app. The UI is completely redesigned. When you first launch the app you are presented with a “virtually endless” stream of the most recent news stories. My favorite feature has to be the automatic summaries. The app provides you with small summaries of each article as you scroll down the feed. These summaries are created by a clever piece of software developed by 17-year old Nick D’Aloisio that can recognize the most important parts of a news article and create short summaries of very long articles. This isn’t the first time Yahoo has attempted to make a personalized news application on iOS. The Livestand app aimed to create a custom magazine for iPad users based on their interests, but unfortunately the app was shut down after only one year. I think Yahoo really put a lot of effort into developing a high quality application for their company. So, what do you think of Yahoo’s new app? Have you tried it? Will you be downloading it?
